Brain League and Edutech launch ValueIPR

Brain League and Edutech have launched the first of its kind e-learning course relating to Intellectual Property on the seventh of August. The course, entitled 'Impact on Business', is aimed at training employees in knowledge driven companies on the basic concepts of intellectual property and its business value. The course is highly interactive with interesting voice-overs, graphics, case studies, examples taken from real cases and so on. It makes intellectual property learning simple, easy and convenient for employees from all backgrounds. The course has specific modules customized to meet the needs of biotechnology, software and manufacturing industries. The pricing structure of the course makes it cost effective and accessible to companies of all sizes.

The module was formally launched by Dr. Anindya Sircar, Head of IP of Biocon India Limited. During his launch speech, Dr. Sircar said, " To generate, protect and commercialize intellectual property efficiently, every employee in a company has to be aware of intellectual property. It is not enough if the IP department of a company is aware, every scientist in the company should know the value he is generating in terms of IP and the steps he should take to protect it." Dr. Damodaran, professor at IIMB, who was a guest of honor at the launch said, "Development of IP hygiene and culture is the need of the hour in knowledge driven companies and the suite of ValueIPR e-learning modules will go a long way in helping companies." He also pointed out that such modules should be made available to rural people in local languages, where there is lot of traditional knowledge and innovation.

Mr. Suprio Dasgupta, Chief Legal Counsel, HTSL India, sent across a message to the launch, in which he said, " ... Today, managing IP in technology driven companies is getting more and more complex. Wall Street no more rates the companies on the basis of their sales and profit revenues. They ask what technology, what IP you are creating so that your growth projection is sustainable and long term. They are forcing the company Boards to talk about IP portfolio strategy which was unheard in the last century. IP portfolio creation is no more a hobby of few scientists and tecnologists in the companies. It is now a necessity and strategy. I am happy to see that Brainleague has come forward to take that challenge and is making an attempt to fill the vacuum of IP awareness in the Indian scenario."

Excerpts from the first course were demonstrated at the launch by Sanjay from Edutech and Kalyan from Brain League gave a short talk on the contents and value of the course.
