You cannot ask 'Ask Me' any more
Just Dial recently sued Ask Me (TV 18 group company) for stealing Just Dial's data and displaying it on the website. Just dial raised an argument of copyright infringement based on the fact that the data collected was a result of years of hard work. The High court has issued an ex parte injunction against Ask Me asking them to shut down operations. The Court has issued directions for the seizure of the computers and data storage devises owned by Ask Me.
Stipulation over IP aspects of EU Free Trade Agreement
As India and EU negotiate the Free Trade Agreement, it is stipulated that EU may be forcing India to agree on stringent provisions with respect to intellectual property. It has been reported that EU is pushing India to agree on longer patent term extensions, stringent data exclusivity provisions and so on. As the draft copy of the agreement has not been made available, the concerns may not be real.
Bristol-Myers-Squibb accuses an Indian employee of trade secret misappropriation
An Indian employee, Mr. Jhaveri, working as a technical operations associate was charged for trade secret misappropriation by Bristol-Myers-Squibb. Mr. Jhaveri has been imprisoned without bail based on the company's allegations. Bristol has alleged that Mr. Jhaveri has misappropriated the company's trade secrets with the intention of starting a competing company in India. If the charges are proved Mr. Jhaveri may be put in jail for about ten years.

Patents asserted against Eastman have been invalidated
Eastman introduced innovative resins that enhance bottle clarity, product purity and so on in the year 2006. Wellman filed a patent infringement suit against Eastman alleging that the resins violate two of its patents relating to resins. The District Court of in Wilmington has now invalidated the patents clearing Eastman from liability.
Boston Scientific settles with Johnson and Johnson
Boston Scientific has settled a patent infringement suit that was filed against it by Johnson and Johnson in 2003. The infringement suit related to patents held by Johnson and Johnson concerning coronary stents. As a part of the settlement, Boston Scientific has agreed to pay 1.725 billion dollars to Johnson and Johnson in two installments. Boston Scientific had settled seventeen cases during the last year.
Efforts towards forming LTE Patent Pool in progress
Persons holding patents relating to LTE standards have initiated the process of forming a patent pool in order to jointly license the patents that form part of the pool. The persons include patent holders from Germany, France, USA and so on. The pool formation is being facilitated by Via Licensing Corporation. The next meeting of the patent holders is scheduled in March.
