Thailand joins PCT

Thailand has become a member of Patent Co-operation Treaty (PCT) on 24th September, 2009. After Thailand joined the PCT, the Treaty now has 142 members. The membership will come into effect on 24th December, 2009.

Edu4 held liable for violating GPL

A French Appeal Court has held a company called Edu4 liable for violating provisions of GNU General Public License (GPL). Edu4 distributed the binary code of the remote desktop access software, VNC,Edu4 and did not provide the source code and tampered with the notices in the software. After hearing the parties, the court upheld the enforceability of GPL and noted that non-disclosure of source code and removal of notices amounts to violation of provisions of GPL.

Online Copyright Filing

Copyright applications in India can now be filed online. The Indian Copyright Office has provided facilities for eFiling of copyright applications using which the diary number can be obtained immediately. However, online payment system will be available only from December and until it is available payments must be made by Demand Draft or Postal Order.

Boston Scientific and Johnson and Johnson settle
Boston Scientific has settled patent infringement suits in USA and other countries with Johnson and Johnson. The patent suits related to stents used for treatment of heart disorders. As part of the settlement, Boston Scientific has agreed to pay Johnson and Johnson a sum of 716 million dollars.
